Most alignment problems don't feel urgent. The car still drives, and the steering may seem perfectly normal. But underneath, your tires can be wearing unevenly with every mile scrubbing against the road at the wrong angle and losing valuable tread life. By the time the signs become obvious, you're often facing premature tire replacement and avoidable expenses that a simple alignment service could have prevented.

The second list is where alignment problems actually live for most drivers. By the time the pull is obvious, the tire wear has already happened.
What Actually Causes Alignment to Go Out
Potholes and curb strikes :- the most common cause in the Metro Atlanta area, where road conditions range from rough to genuinely hazardous. A single hard impact can shift suspension angles enough to start wearing tires immediately.
Suspension component wear :- ball joints, tie rod ends, and control arm bushings all affect alignment angles as they wear. An alignment adjustment on worn components doesn't hold which is why we inspect the suspension before adjusting anything.
Accidents and impacts :- even a low-speed parking lot bump can alter suspension geometry in ways that aren't visible but show up in alignment measurements.
Time and normal driving :- alignment doesn't stay perfect forever. Gradual drift over miles and road vibration is normal. That's why periodic checks matter even when nothing dramatic has happened.
The Three Angles That Matter
Alignment isn't one adjustment, it's the calibration of three suspension angles working together:
Toe whether the fronts of the tires point slightly inward or outward relative to each other. The most common misalignment and the fastest cause of tire wear. Even a small toe error causes tires to scrub against the road with every rotation.
Camber the vertical tilt of the tire when viewed from the front. Excessive camber causes one-sided wear and affects cornering stability.
Caster the angle of the steering axis, which affects straight-line stability and steering feel. Too little caster and the car wanders; too much and the steering gets heavy.
All three are measured, compared against your manufacturer's specifications, and adjusted as needed. The job isn't done until the steering wheel is centered and the vehicle is road-tested.

Common Questions
How often should I get an alignment? Annually or every 12,000–15,000 miles as a baseline sooner if you've hit something hard, replaced suspension components, or notice any handling changes. Marietta roads make more frequent checks worthwhile for most drivers.
What's the difference between alignment and balancing? Alignment adjusts the suspension angles that determine how tires contact the road. Balancing corrects uneven weight distribution in the tire and wheel assembly. Both affect ride quality and tire wear, but they're separate services addressing different problems. Vibration at highway speed is usually a balance issue. Pulling or uneven wear is usually alignment.
Can bad alignment really hurt fuel economy? Yes. Misaligned tires create rolling resistance the drivetrain works harder to overcome tires that aren't rolling cleanly. The effect is modest per tank but real over time.
My car doesn't pull. Do I still need an alignment? Possibly. Pulling is a late symptom. Uneven tire wear, slightly off-center steering, and subtle handling imprecision often show up long before a noticeable pull develops. If it's been over a year, a check is worthwhile.
How long does an alignment take? Typically an hour or less for a straightforward four-wheel alignment. If suspension components need attention first, we'll tell you before starting so you can plan accordingly.
