Most shops push replacement because it's more profitable. We push whichever option actually makes sense for your vehicle. Here's how we think about it:
Repair makes sense when the damage is isolated a failed solenoid, a worn clutch pack, a leaking seal. These are contained problems with contained costs.
Replacement makes sense when internal damage is widespread, metal contamination has spread through the fluid system, multiple major components have failed simultaneously, or the cost of a proper repair approaches or exceeds the cost of a quality replacement unit. At that point, a replacement gives you a fresh start rather than a patched system waiting to fail again.
We run a full diagnostic before making any recommendation. You'll know exactly what's failed, what it would cost to repair it, and what a replacement would cost then you decide.
Which Replacement Transmission Is Right for You
New OEM Transmission Factory-built, factory-spec, typically with a manufacturer-backed warranty. The highest upfront cost and the lowest long-term uncertainty. Right for drivers who plan to keep the vehicle for years and want no compromises.
Remanufactured Transmission Completely disassembled, every component measured against factory tolerances, worn or out-of-spec parts replaced, then reassembled and tested. The closest thing to new without the new price. For most customers, this is the sweet spot predictable reliability at a meaningful cost savings.
Rebuilt Transmission Damaged and worn components are replaced; serviceable parts are retained. More affordable than remanufactured, and the right call when the original failure was contained and the rest of the unit is in good shape. Quality varies more here than with remanufactured which is why sourcing matters.

Is it better to rebuild or replace? Depends entirely on what failed and how far it spread. A contained failure in an otherwise healthy transmission favors rebuild. Widespread internal damage or metal contamination in the fluid system favors replacement. We'll show you the diagnostic findings and let you make an informed call.
How long does replacement take? Several days once the unit arrives, in most cases. We'll give you a realistic estimate upfront and we don't start the job until we have the part, so you're not left without a car longer than necessary.
How long will a rebuilt or remanufactured transmission last? A quality unit, properly installed and maintained, can last as long as the original often well over 100,000 miles. Maintenance matters: regular fluid checks and changes protect the new unit the same way they should have protected the old one.
What caused my transmission to fail? The most common culprits are low or degraded fluid, overheating, neglected maintenance intervals, electronic failures, and high-load use like frequent towing. The diagnostic will identify the root cause which matters, because replacing a transmission without addressing the cause is a temporary fix.
Can I keep driving with transmission problems? Short answer: no. Transmission issues worsen with continued use, sometimes rapidly. A fluid leak today can become a seized transmission tomorrow.
